girl-superhero-birthday-party

Have you ever thought about throwing a girl superhero party? Well Katie G from The Perfect Party did just that, and it was awesome. Read her 7 tips for throwing her Girls Gone Superheroes Party here!

1. What was the inspiration for your party?

The family that I threw the party for are huge superhero comic strip fans, so I decided to take what is a popular boy theme and do a vintage, girly version of it! It was a hit for the whole family! :)

2. How long did it take to put together?

It took about six week of planning and about two weeks to design all the backdrops, etc.

3. What food/drink did you serve?

Food: breakfast foods from Panera (bagels/cream cheese, souffles, fruit); Drinks: Coffee bar, Juice Bar, and Mimosas; Sweet Bar: cake & cupcakes from Susie Cakes and a large candy station that was also a take home item.

4. What activities did you have?

I hired a Batman/Batgirl Duo to come teach the kids how to be a superhero. They all were awarded badges at the end. Other activities, were a "decorate your cape and mask station" (each child got both to wear during the party and take home as their favors), photo backdrop station (I created a life size Gotham city backdrop for the kids to take pics in front of).

5. What was your budget?

My budget was about $3,000 for everything.

6. What was your favorite moment?

Right before the guests arrived, seeing the girls' faces as they walked around looking at everything. Also, seeing how much fun all the kids had from beginning to end!

7. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to throw a similar party?

There is so much superhero stuff out there, so it's a fun theme to get really creative with! Just keep your eyes peeled  for cute things that you can add to your decor, etc

Thanks, Katie! Love the message of girls being superheroes in their own right!

7 Tips for Throwing a Shabby Chic Cinderella Birthday

Here are 7 tips for throwing an amazing Shabby Chic Cinderella Birthday from Elena at World Wide Party.

1. What was the inspiration for your party?

My daughter is now in her "Cinderella" phase and of course she wanted an all-Princess party for her 4th birthday. A couple of months before her birthday, I found two beautiful vintage wooden wall decorations: one of Cindererella and the carriage, and one of the first original Little Golden Book of Disney’s Cinderella (1952). It was really interesting to see how the drawing changed through the years and as a graphic designer- I fell in love with the first editions and used that for my inspiration. From there I created all the decorations and the invitation with something like a shabby chic vintage style and Cinderella’s silhouette with a rose.

2. How long did it take to put together?

I started to collect vintage decorations, fabrics and other details 5 months before the party. I have usually a big box where I put everything I think might be useful or nice for the party. The last month I put everything together and created the color palette and the graphic design.

3. What food/drink did you serve?

We are from Italy and we just moved to San Francisco last summer. I decided to prepare all of the party food and the dessert Italian specialties. Along with macaroons I had rose shaped cake-pops, mini cupcakes, and personalized "Pasta Frolla" cookies that I hand made. Cantucci (cookies with almonds that are made for enjoying with a great sweet liquor wine, the "Passito di Pantelleria") were served as well as a homemade Zabaione cream with fresh fruits.

For the lunch I prepared “Pasta Fredda” (pasta salad): vegetables presented on cupcake liners with tomatoes, shredded grana cheese, mozzarella di bufala and basil. I also made home-made polenta cubes grilled with cheese and mini meatballs with tomato sauce. The wooden tray featured Prosciutto Crudo, Bologna, Salame Calabrese and some cheeses like Gorgonzola, pecorino and Grana padano with olives and bruschetta. Needless to say - no one left hungry - we are Italian!

4. What activities did you have?

I prepared a table in a corner with all the accessorize for the little princesses and the little princes charming in order to get "ready for the ball." The girls could wear tiaras, jewelry, take a magic wand and wear a personalized tutu, while the boys had matching bowties and a sword. After a little dance party, a magic Princess came to our house to entertain the kids with some fun games and a tricks!

5. What was your budget?

I spent around $800 for food and decorations (I made everything by myself and am a good cook!) plus $190 for the Princess.

6. What was your favorite moment?

The "cake time" is always my favorite moment. We sing Happy Birthday in English and Italian...and looking at my daughter's eyes while blowing her candles, made my heart melt!

7. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to throw a similar party?

I would suggest reading some old Cinderella Books, I learned so much and got my inspirations from them. It is amazing how the drawings changed through the years and I spent a lot of time with my daughter reading all those different versions. I'm, in fact, a Cinderella historian now!

7 Tips for Throwing an Gorgeous Glamping Party

Here are 7 tips for throwing an amazing fabulous Gone Glamping Birthday! from Elizabeth G.

1. What was the inspiration for your party?

The inspiration for this party came from my daughter wanting to go camping but "not with all the bugs mommy"! She had recently received a teepee as a gift and pretty much lived in it and her camping desires grew stronger, yet somehow her ideas for decorating the teepee way fancier than any campsite I'd ever seen. From there, I knew she was a glamorous camping type of gal all the way! We decided to combine camping with all the girly, sparkly, glam elements she loves- minus the "roughing it."

2. How long did it take to put together?

We generally have a few ideas as soon as one birthday ends, but this year she had so many... It wasn't until she received the teepee that we nailed down the theme. Once I had that, I would say it took me the better part of 2-3 months to craft and finalizing everything. I hand cut each banner, glittered every mason jar, and looped every strand of yarn on the dream-catchers in addition to dozens of other party tasks. This party was surely a labor of love, but totally worth it!

3. What food/drink did you serve?

The glampers had a fancy bbq menu that consisted of Fruit Skewers, Smoked Turkey, Chopped Brisket, Pulled/Grilled Chicken, Baked Beans, Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, and Potato Salad. For dessert, there was a custom S'mores bar in addition to the dessert table full of the birthday girls favorite sweet treats for the glampers to choose from! There was personalized homemade trail mix, powdered doughnuts in burlap pouches, strawberry glitter gumballs, peach salt water taffy, fruity candy sticks, vanilla and raspberry macaroons, cookies and cream cupcakes, custom monogrammed cookies, and of course CAKE- luscious caramel and lady-pink raspberry lemon to be exact!

4. What activities did you have?

The glampers had so much to do! There was face painting, tug of war, potato sack racing, a manicure station, custom bracelet and door knob hanger craft projects, dancing, karaoke, the great glamp scavenger hunt, and of course fishing! The birthday girls dad came up with a genius idea for the glampers to go fishing- because what camping adventure would be complete without fishing! I must admit, it was the hit of the party!

5. What was your budget?

I would say this party was a bit pricey due to the number of guests we had this year. Between the party details, food and extra rentals, I was able to keep it under $600 but that was with thrifting and hand crafting a lot of details myself. I can usually whip together a party for next to nothing, but we wanted to splurge a bit this year since it was the Big 7!

6. What was your favorite moment?

Hands down, my favorite moment was when I handed the birthday girl a mound of glitter and asked her to jump up and throw it everywhere! She looked at me in utter disbelief as we have been very careful to try NOT to get glitter everywhere while crafting. I assured her that there would be no consequence and to go wild with the glitter... OH WOW, did I get what I asked for or what! She had a ball showering herself in sparkle and we caught it all on camera... After that, she ran over to me and showered me with glitter while giving me the sweetest hug and kiss ever! The joy on her face was worth all the glitter in the world!

7. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to throw a similar party?

My advice to anyone who would want to throw a party similar is to make it your own! Personalize, personalize, personalize! Infuse your party with as much detail and personality possible. The memories are in the details! Just be sure to take a moment to step back and take it all in... Observe the smiles on your guests faces, share in it, and actually enjoy your own party!

fire-truck-birthday-collage

Here are 7 tips for throwing an amazing Fireman Birthday Party from Virginie at That Cute Little Cake.

1. What was the inspiration for your party?

My son loves Fireman Sam so I knew he would probably like a Fire engine cake ! It so happens that in one of my cake decorating books, there is a picture of a Fireman Sam's truck cake. He was so excited when he saw it that I knew it was THE cake !

2. How long did it take to put together?

Only 2 weeks ! But I had a very clear picture of what I wanted from the start. I am lucky to have party and craft shops close by, so I was able to get my supplies quickly.

3. What food/drink did you serve?

We had a small lunch of sandwiches, vegetables and crisps followed by treats from the dessert table: Ladder cookies, Fire cake pops and a Fire truck birthday cake.

4. What activities did you have?

Because our little guests were so young (2 years old) they mainly played outside.

5. What was your budget?

I spent very little for this party. Most of the decorations are made from tissue paper which is very inexpensive. I always try to bake treats myself to keep my budget under control.

6. What was your favorite moment?

When we got to cut the cake, my little boy was so excited!

7. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to throw a similar party?

If you are going to craft a lot, start early !!! It's easier to do it little by little than to have many late nights at the last minute...!

Now make sure to check out the whole Fireman Birthday Party! Thanks, Virginie!
