{DIY} My Quick and Easy Father's Day Project

Since we're we're moving to Palo Alto the weekend of Father's Day, I know this year's celebration is going to be low-key (grocery store danish and a homemade card if he's lucky). But I still want David, my husband, to know we're thinking of him.

So I made my daughter this cute tee shirt to wear using this free "I heart Dad" iron-on design and these HP transfer sheets.

I followed these instructions and finished the whole project in less than 20 minutes! It was amazingly easy and I highly recommend it, especially if you don't have a lot of time.

The HP iron-on transfer sheets I used...

I printed the file and cut it out, leaving a small border (I probably could have made the border even smaller).

I placed a pillowcase on my table (you need a hard surface to do this), put my daughter's white Old Navy tee shirt down, and the transfer on top.

I ironed slowly on high heat (no steam) in up and down strokes for about five minutes.

I peeled the back of the transfer off and...

Voila... Lainey in her new tee shirt!

I think David's going to be very happy (and very sore from lifting all those boxes)!

{DESIGN CHALLENGE} Design a Birthday Card and Win $100 from Amazon and an HP Officejet 7500A Printer

We've come up with a new Design Challenge... We're giving away $300 in Amazon gift certificates and an HP Officejet 7500A printer. Plus your design could end up on the HP Facebook page and in the HP Newsgram newsletter!

We'd like you to design the front of a BIRTHDAY CARD --  an all-purpose card that someone would download, print out, and send to their friend or relative on their birthday!

All you need to enter is a little creativity and a photograph. That's right, the birthday card you create must include at least one photo. It can be a photo of a birthday hat, a cake, a foot... anything. We want to see how creative you can be with a photo.

Here's an example...

And wait, I didn't even tell you the coolest part... The most popular design will be featured as a free download on the HP Facebook page and in the HP Newsgram. If any company understands printing and printables, it's HP, so they're excited to see what our creative community can come up with!

Here are some other basic rules:

  • Each person may enter up to three birthday card designs
  • Card designs must be entered by 11:59pm (PDT) May 13th
  • We ask that you submit a JPG, PNG, or GIF of the front design of your card, and there will be space to type in any text for the inside of the card
  • The semi-final round will occur on the Catch My Party site from May 14th - May 20th, where our readers will vote for their favorite three designs
  • The three finalists will each receive $100 Amazon gift certificates
  • The final round of voting will be held on the HP Facebook page and in the HP Newsgram
  • The designer who creates the winning design will also receive an HP Officejet 7500A worth $199.99 provided by us, and will have their design be featured as a free download in the HP Newsgram and on the HP Facebook page
  • The winner will be notified by email and be required to sign a release for their design
  • All entrants must own the rights to the photo(s) they use
  • Entrants must be at least 18 years of age
  • This design challenge is sponsored and administered solely by Catch My Party
Happy designing!! We can't wait to see your cards!!

How I'm Teaching My Daughter The Days of the Week

I've been trying to teach my daughter, Lainey, how days, weeks, and months all fit together, and I have to say, it's a lot to absorb.

So for the New Year, I thought I would get her a calendar, so she can see for herself. Then I found these free calendars and started printing them out.

First, I printed out this Doodle Monthly Calendar which I added pictures of her to. I'm planning to keep it on the fridge so she can look at it, touch it, read it... whatever she wants. I find she learns the best that way, and if it gets messed up, I can print a new one. Cute, right?

I also printed out this kid and parent calendar so she can start to see all the upcoming events in her life, because as a kid, it's so important to know what's around the corner. For Lainey, I can tell it definitely gives her a sense of control.

She loved it, too, and helped me glue on the cute little labels this calendar comes with for playdates, doctor's appointments, vacations, etc. Now she can count the days to her friends' birthday parties.

As you know, I'm obsessed with my HP printer, so any new project I find, especially with photos, I'm game.  Maybe calendar birthday gifts for my parents this year?
