My daughter, Lainey, will be finishing preschool in June and heading to kindergarten in the fall. This is the first time I'm starting to feel nostalgic. It really is true what they say about being a parent: the days are slow, but the years are fast. Where have these five years gone?
I'm not usually sentimental, but I must confess that when I see people display monthly photos of their babies during their first year at their first birthdays, I wish I had done that. I think I was just too busy and overwhelmed (and sleep deprived) to even think about it.
So now I'm doing a project. I'm taking my daughter's drawings from preschool which currently looks like this...
And I'm scanning each one using my HP Printer to make a photo book out of them. This way, I don't have to save the actual pieces of paper because I'll have a beautiful way of remembering them (and so will she).
Here are some of her drawings I love...
I got this idea after reading this article on the HP site, How to save mementos for your kids. As you may know, HP is one of our sponsors, so I'm always scouring their site for useful info (because I think they've got a lot of it). The article is full of great ideas, many of which I hadn't thought of, like taking photos of your kids playing with their favorite toys, so you don't have to save all their toys, too.
How do you save mementos of your children? I'd love to know, because I'm always looking for new ideas. Please leave a comment at the end of this post. Also, how sentimental are you? :)
I've been trying to teach my daughter, Lainey, how days, weeks, and months all fit together, and I have to say, it's a lot to absorb.
So for the New Year, I thought I would get her a calendar, so she can see for herself. Then I found these free calendars and started printing them out.
First, I printed out this Doodle Monthly Calendar which I added pictures of her to. I'm planning to keep it on the fridge so she can look at it, touch it, read it... whatever she wants. I find she learns the best that way, and if it gets messed up, I can print a new one. Cute, right?
I also printed out this kid and parent calendar so she can start to see all the upcoming events in her life, because as a kid, it's so important to know what's around the corner. For Lainey, I can tell it definitely gives her a sense of control.
She loved it, too, and helped me glue on the cute little labels this calendar comes with for playdates, doctor's appointments, vacations, etc. Now she can count the days to her friends' birthday parties.
As you know, I'm obsessed with my HP printer, so any new project I find, especially with photos, I'm game. Maybe calendar birthday gifts for my parents this year?

Whenever I get crafty, I feel like a kid! So yesterday, I had a great day making homemade ornaments for our tree using my handy HP Printer (go here for our current HP printer giveaway) and some free downloads from the HP Creative Studio.
Take a look at what I made... (For the downloads, click on the photos.)
This paper snowball is my favorite. If you're going to make one, this is definitely the one to try.
Since we celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah at our house, I had to make this cute dreidel for my daughter (It actually works).
These were really easy to do. I just needed some glossy brochure paper, a pair of good scissors, a glue stick, a hole punch, and some ribbon. If you're looking for some fun ornaments, holiday cards, and decoration, check out the HP Creative Studio. There's a lot to explore.
If you read my blog, you know I'm really excited about my brand new HP Officejet 7500A Printer. What I love most about it is that it can do everything! It great for professional printing, home printing, photo printing, faxing, copying, and crafts. Cool, right?
So yesterday, I told my husband, David, how much I loved it, and his response was, "If you love it so much, why don't you just marry it?" Hmmm.
Since I can't actually marry it (although after his comment, I was ready to), I thought I'd give away a printer, and not just because it's the holidays, but because I want someone else to understand my feelings!
