Vintage Fishing Party

This past fall I had the fun opportunity to participate in “Boy Bash on a Budget” challenge put on by Spaceships and Laserbeams; and if you know me there is nothing I like more than creating an adorable party for less! With $50 to spend on an entire dessert table and a selection of printables to choose from I went to work.

When I first saw the vintage fishing collection it instantly reminded me of my summers spent in Michigan at our family’s cottage and all of those quiet hours in the metal rowboat hoping to catch a fish!

I wanted to keep the dessert table rustic and vintage so I rummaged through my dad’s garage for some vintage lures and an old bait box and called up my good friend who has a collection of wonderful treasures! I made some paper fish that coordinated with the printable collection and hung them from fishing poles made out of dowel rods to use as the main centerpiece of the dessert table. I had a brown tablecloth and burlap runners already so I decided to use those as my table coverings. I then started brainstorming dessert ideas and here’s what I decided on: Marshmallow Bobbers, Bait Cupcakes complete with ‘dirt and worms,’ Motor Oil bottles, Catch of the Day Whoopie Pies, Jello Minnow Buckets, Fresh Fish buckets of goldfish, and pretzel rod Fishing Poles. Since this was a budget challenge, I decided to make all the dessert myself.

To add a bit of a rustic look, I wrapped the metal tins and bottles with jute rope and added a printable punch out. I also had mini chalkboard signs that I used and labeled them “Worms,” “Minnows,” and “Fresh Fish.” I also had a few kraft gable boxes left over from a previous party so I wrapped them with some brown ribbon and an old lure and turned them into “Tackle Lunch Boxes.”

By combining the items I already had or borrowed and making the desserts myself I spent a grand total of $42.44 on the party! I had such a fun time crafting and creating the items for this challenge and once again can say that you can get an adorable party that is also affordable with a little creativity!
