Vintage Superhero Party

The Superhero Party was a styled photo shoot for our new Superhero Printable Party Collection. I put together a party full of simple ideas that are super doable, super fun, and super budget friendly. I wanted the party to have a back alley look to it as if the superheroes gathered in a top secret location to party. I scoped out our area and found a red brick building with a side parking lot which fit the bill perfectly. I used shipping pallets as the serving table to complete the back alley party look. Of course, Jennifer Schattle Photography did the rest to capture the top secret details.

Besides the shipping pallets, which I love, some of my favorite style elements are the desk lamp “spotlight” and the vintage Batman poster–making it an official superhero party. The favor bags were tied shut with baker’s twine and “top secret” favor tags.

The cake is homemade with two 9-inch round pans. It has a cream cheese filling and cream cheese icing that is iced very smooth. I bordered lifesavers around the bottom edge of the cake because superheroes are lifesavers, right?! Then, I used the cake signs from our printable party collection on bamboo skewers to really make the cake POP. The cake cost less than $6.00 to make.

I found all of the candy at our local dollar store and totaled a whopping $4.00. I kept in the color scheme with the Dubble Bubble bubblegum, and scored the very cool vintage superhero candy sticks which went perfectly with the theme. I filled a few of my glass containers on hand with the candy and dressed up the bubblegum container with the “POP” cake sign. Of course, a superhero party cannot be without the rock candy “kryptonite.”

Popcorn was also made super by adding m&ms and served in a push pop(corn) container from Garnish. In total we spent less than $15.00 on the cake and candy. Now that’s super!

It’s a little known fact, but superheroes love submarine sandwiches. That’s right. Meat and potatoes are out. Subs are in. Wink, wink. So, with this little piece of information, I knew I would need to serve sub style sandwiches at the Superhero Party. Sub sandwiches or “heroes” were served individually in take-out boxes from Garnish. Each kind of sandwich was labeled appropriately. The peanut butter and jelly, of course, became “The Batman & Robin”. “The Superman” sub was turkey and cheese — a play on Superman’s duality. Then there was “The Incredible” none other than a meatball sub.

The straw flags are labeled with various superpowers so that the party guests can “pick their superpower.” Ideally, the superpower then takes over when guzzling down the “fizz” and “pop” though a straw.
