Party Recap

We were so excited to be celebrating the first birthday of our third child, Grant. Grant was born 5 weeks early without any complications and our family has been celebrating milestones since. One thing we noticed was how hairy he was when he was born! Because he was an early baby, he still had much of that baby hair all over his body, so we appropriately nicknamed him "Bear." Coincidentally, our little bear never cooed, he would make little bear cub growls instead. So, as the first months passed by, the more appropriate his nickname became.

When thinking of his first birthday party theme, nothing else would do but a bear theme. I used my favorite vintage bear graphic to design the invitation and printables using the color scheme of red, white, and turquoise. I kept the party simple and the gathering intimate as to not overload him. On the party table, I included a list of "Grant's Firsts" and "Grants Favorite Things." The cake and smash cake were a simple, delicious french vanilla cakes with cream cheese icing made by his daddy. Le BonBon created the most adorable teddy bear macarons which I called "cubcake macarons." Icings by Ang did the most amazing job making decorated cookies to match the invite and theme. I was blown away how beautiful the cookies were. A 1980's gum ball machine was added in keeping with the vintage theme. We snacked on gummy bears, teddy grahams, bit o' honey, and peanut butter logs.

Our photographer Jennifer of Jennifer Schattle Photography did the best job capturing the beginning of the last first birthday party our family would celebrate!
