Party Recap

I wanted to bring the frog prince alive for my son Brennan on his first birthday, but didn’t see any designs that had that special quality I was looking for–so I dreamed up and designed what I wanted my frog prince to be for my little boy. This also ended up being a big introduction for me to the world of highly detailed party planning and dessert buffets! You can see more photos at http://www.frogprincepaperie.com

The invitation was 4-panel fold booklet with each panel showing Brennan growing up over the year – at 1, 4, 7, and 11 months.

There were plenty of blue green and polka dot banners strung around the room in addition to a large number of tissue poufs! Since the kids were going to be on the floor to eat for the party, I needed the ceiling to come down to them and fill that void in the space. I wanted to give it kind of an under water feel with all the blue and green, and tissue poufs are about as easy as it gets to very simply and inexpensively add lots of color and fill lots of space. My original idea involved a hula hoop and about 100 yards of tulle; my husband was happy I changed my mind.I also used tiny poufs to create “flower” arrangements for the kids’ table. I hand sewed little lily pad pillows for the children to sit on at the party.

The candy buffet was more a party favor at our event…guests were given a box to fill up with candy before they left as a thank you for coming. Next time I would definitely get bigger boxes, as there was still a lot left over even with 20 kids at the party. It was a nice memory for the kids, as they were all pretty excited about picking out all that candy.

The smash cake was made by a good friend of mine who lives three hours away. I was happy someone was able to transport it to the party for me! It turned out so neat!
