Party Recap

After finding out my best friend was having her second child, I went straight to work on planning a Gender Reveal party for her. It was a party I hadn't done and I thought it was a great idea for a second child.

While brainstorming the design for the invitation, I came across Jenny from Craft That Party's Peg Dolls and knew exactly how I would reveal the gender. A little peg doll wrapped up to be opened by the big sister. It was a great way to incorporate her into the big news.

I designed the invitation and the printables based on the peg dolls.

My colors were already going to be yellow and grey no matter what. They worked out great with the Peg Doll theme.

To keep with the theme, I thought the guessing should be done via mini bare wood peg dolls I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I spray painted them pink and blue and had the guests choose which one represented their guess for the gender. My awesome husband built the voting stand via a hand drawn "blueprint" I provided him.

I had bottles of champagne with custom labels that read "Before the big reveal..TOAST ME" and a custom label for the apple cider which indicated it was the expecting family's private reserve.

It was truly a suspenseful moment when little sis opened the package. For the package I used a simple Kraft box with a bow tied around it to make it easy for her to open. As she is only two, I also did not want her to lose interest in a complex package.

It was a sweet moment for family to find out and I would do it all over again. Such a fun little party.

Party Highlights

  • Best Moment

Best moment was when the little sister-to-be opened to package with the peg doll which would reveal the sex of the baby.

  • Desserts

The dessert table featured chocolate cake along with vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, cake pops, chocolate dipped oreos, macarons in a variety of flavors, and Creme Brulee piped into a cup of fresh berries. One of my favorite parts of the dessert table was the wooden spoons I used for the Creme Brulee. I hand stamped them with a stamp that read "Happy for you".

  • Party Favors

For the favors I had grey polka dot bags available for people to fill up with any dessert they wanted to take home with them.

  • Activities / Games

The only activity was for the guests to guess what the mother-to-be was going to be having. There were blue and pink wooden pegs to be placed on the peg'leader'board. I included 6 printed old wives tales to aide in their method of guessing.

  • What People Ate

I served everything in tasting plates. My menu consisted of Tarragon Chicken Salad, Grapes & Cheese, Red Pepper Cream Cheese Dip with Pretzel Crisps, and Stuffed Dates wrapped in bacon.

  • What People Drank

For drinks I prepared a white sangria, water with lemon slices, lemonade, beer, champagne, and sparkling cider.
