A Golden Girls Themed 30th Birthday Bash

My brother's girlfriend Julia is a huge fan of the show The Golden Girls. So, when planning for her surprise 30th birthday party we knew this just had to be the theme.

When I started my research for party inspiration, surprisingly enough, there wasn't as much out there as I thought there was going to be. Several people went with the old lady decor which was also my first inclination. However, this was going to be an outdoor party, in July, so not as easy to "old lady" the place up. So I put a little spin on it and decided to do a Miami-esqu glamorized old lady theme. My color palette consisted of green, bright pink, and gold-think flamingos and pineapple decor (kinda Lily P for my prepsters out there).

Julia loves karaoke so we knew we were going to have a DJ. He played the theme song to the Golden Girls as Julia walked in which made for quite the entrance!

The party was a total blast and the theme was hilarious and everyone really got into it! Several people wore Golden Girls t-shirts or dressed in a relaxed Miami-style outfit. Most importantly Julia loved it and appreciated all of her friends and family from near and far coming to celebrate her big day.

  An array of Italian dishes, just like they had back in Sicily, right Ma?!

• What People Drank

  Beer, Italian wine, Blanche's Georgia Peach White Sangria, and an array of soft drinks.

• Desserts

  All homemade-mini cheesecakes (like the women often enjoyed on the show), pies, red velvet cake pops, oatmeal raisin cookies (Julia's favorite as a child, provided by her mother), flourless chocolate cake, vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting.
