Party Recap

We have been waiting months to watch this New York Themed Bat Mitzvah come together!

One of the main goals for us when when planning an event is to give the guests an experience. We want them to really feel like they've been taken to another place. This Bat Mitzvah was the perfect opportunity for us to do that!

We discussed this event and brain stormed with our clients, Maddy and Deb. We came up with decor ideas and ways to implement the theme. It wasn't until we visited the venue together and started talking about food that things really took shape.

An idea evolved into having food stations instead of the traditional sit-down or buffet service. Each food station would represent an iconic district in NYC. We developed menus for: Little Italy, Chinatown, Lower East Side, and Street Food. We decided to dress each of the stations to represent the specific district. This would help transform the ballroom into New York City.

A challenge with the food stations was making sure that the decorations did not interfere with the access to the table and the food. We also ended up with tables double the size of what we had designed for.

For the Lower East Side we turned the station into a deli. To save on costs, the hanging meats were made out of paper mache. We included a ticket holder and hanging basket filled with tomatoes, bread, and garlic. A large chalkboard menu helped to carry the theme through the whole table. Of course the menu reflected the cuisine found in that district:

Chinatown: We initially planned to create some kind of arch way that we in Philadelphia associate with Chinatown. After some research we learned that New York's Chinatown does not have an arch way so we regrouped and went with other recognizable elements.

The guests had the option to use Chinese take out containers and chop sticks.

Little Italy: We felt the most appropriate representation of Little Italy would be a row of "store fronts".We made new awnings for structures that we have used in the past and with our Silhouette Cameo and heat transfer material we replicated the facade of a "caffe"and "ristorante".

Street Food: We really wanted to turn this station into a food cart like you would see on the street in the city. Turning a 12 foot table into a "cart" was a daunting task. We found a metallic fabric that we used as a table skirt to emulate the metal food cart. We found a Sabrett beach umbrella and hung a chip rack with various bagged snacks underneath. Since one of the most recognizable parts of a street vendor cart is the picture menu we made a banner illustrating the food options.
This was supposed to be the "kids" station. Of course it was a ht with the adults as well!

We created a "Dylan's Candy Bar" style candy buffet featuring Maddy's favorite candies.

We kept centerpieces simple. We frosted glass vases, inverted them and attached New York skylines cut on our Silhouette. We out 2 battery operated tea lights under the vase to illuminate it. We also cut a vinyl "I LOVE NY" and stuck it onto a red apple. The tables were labeled with NY landmarks. We had postcards printed on Zazzle and popped them into a frame.

What is more New York than taxi cabs?! We created place cards to go with the cab holders and a marquee sign to dress up the table.

We built a directional street sign for the entryway of the ballroom.

Jennifer from CrazyFaces airbrushed t-shirts for guests. She was amazing and the shirts were a big hit!

LCA Photobooths provided the photo booth and props and even created an album for Maddy with photo strips and messages from the guests.

All Around Entertainment's emcee Robbi Rob was Fantastic! He was very interactive and had everyone dancing!
