Party Recap

Summer birthdays are tough to plan around here. It is usually in the 100's. So when my soon-to-be 8 year old daughter asked for a dance/cheer themed party at home, I told her there was no way we could have kids come over to play outside. I got to searching on the internet and found out that we had a new Cheerleading gym move into the neighborhood less than 2 miles from our home! We called them up and went to see the facility. When they quoted us a very reasonable rate for use of the gym for 2 hours, we jumped at the chance. The gym's colors are red, white, and black. We decided to request on the invitation that party guests should "please wear white and red sporty clothes." The guests would get a 1.5 hour lesson. They would perform a little cheer for the parents, and then they could eat lunch and have cake. I snagged great red and white tote bags at Oriental Trading. I customized each bag with the guest's name and a Cheer theme ribbon(Michaels). I found the right colored pom poms, megaphones, and firework straws at USToy.com. The guests received a pair of pom poms, a fruit flavored lip balm (multi-pack from Target), and 3 tiny bottles of little girl nail polish (multi-pack from Big Lots). The gym threw in a complimentary cheer lesson and a Magnitude Cheer pencil for all of the girls. I made a pair of red and white polka dor hair bows for every girl. My daughter gave them each their pair as they arrived at the gym. I even found a bakery (Viktor Benes) to replicate the invitation onto rice paper for the birthday cake! The rest of the food, pinwheel sandwiches and tortilla chips were from Costco. The paper goods were from Michaels and Target.
