Party Recap

I wanted to focus the design of my daughter’s Aloha party around the flower of hibiscus, not just because it’s so beautiful, but because it’s the national flower of my native Puerto Rico, where I’m from. So it’s a flower that represents the tropics that our family loves so much. I wanted Brianna to look like a Tropical Princess, so a flower detail on her beautiful curly hair, a bathing suit and a special color Hula skirt was enough. When designing an Aloha/Luau/Hawaiian themed party it’s always good to narrow it down to 2 or 3 colors and bring it back on the details, otherwise the décor will be overbearing and overwhelming. I wanted the party color scheme to be warm yellows and oranges, so when I found the backdrop fabric at Joan’s Fabric, I was ecstatic! It was the inspiration for the rest of the design. My handy husband did an awesome job by creating this backdrop which hangs as a picture on the wall.
It is very easy to find (at very good prices) your typical Luau elements: Leis and Hula skirts for girls and tables, straw hats and Hawaiian hair accessories. I found all these at Hobby Lobby and they were also the party favors. This is where I also purchased bright color candy boxes, all paper ware and supplies for all table dessert tags, her birthday banner and the Aloha sign that hangs on the backdrop. I wanted to have a hand-crafted element so the last three items were designed and hand-cut by me.
A 2 year-old does not stay still for pictures, so I thought to sit her on the table surrounded by a bamboo bowl with tropical fruit and a tropical plant and, which I had around the house. While she played with the fruit, I was able to snap a few pictures. The tablecloth is from my local party store.
All sweets were created by Sweet Events by Anna Rose. I thought it would be an interesting detail to add the names of the flavors on the tags in Hawaiian language. The cake is guava chiffon and the topper is a threesome of silk hibiscus flowers from Joan’s fabrics. I didn’t take a picture, but it’s a beautiful guava pink inside. The cupcakes are Mai Tai flavor, but kid-friendly. The cookies are sugar with a passion fruit filling, which were delicious. All candy was purchased at my favorite online candy shop: Oh Nuts! Their candy is fresh and top of the line quality.
I enjoy working with modern party hostesses wanting to make a fabulous impression and captivate her guests with delicious desserts and amazing party details and style.
