Party Recap

I had three weeks to plan this Under the Sea party for the sweetest 6 year old. She loves Ariel, so this party was inspired by The Little Mermaid. Even though it was The Little Mermaid inspired, I wanted to create something that was whimsical, light, fun and magical. I went with a turquoise, sea foam green, sand and white color palette. Since I love the beach, I had a lot of the props that I used to decorate the activity table and the dessert table.

I created the light airy feel by hanging the balloons upside down to resemble bubbles, used tulle fabric on all the tables, and the activity table had a runner I made of burlap. I bought the extra starfish and sand dollars from a summer clearance sale at Pottery Barn Kids. The sea glass came from the dollar store and the sparkly Chinese boxes, which held all the party crafts, came from Michael's. The girl's got to make bracelets, decorate a princess mask, decorate a picture frame and made their own "pearl" necklaces from white pearlized bubble gum. For the birthday girl's brothers, I had pirate masks for them to decorate as well as pirate necklaces. All of these were favors they could take home. They also got princess "silly banz" and starfish wands that I made with starfish, ribbons and glitter from Michael's.

For the dessert table, I went with turquoise tulle and used a ruffled curtain that I got at Target. The wood stand that I used for the sweets was a thrift store find that I cleaned up. I think it worked perfectly! The desserts included magical mermaid cookies, octopus pops (cake pops), sea sponges (marshmallows), Cookies of the Sea (beach themes assorted cookies), and sea pearls. The birthday girl's cake was a magical ombre cake on the outside and inside. The oohs and ahhs when the cake was cut were priceless.
