Batman Baby Shower

I had the privilege of styling a Baby Batman themed baby shower for a dear friend. With the help of another friend, we created a brunch style gathering, loaded with lots of crafty, fun, personal touches. Our colors were gold, black, white, royal blue and a splash of gold. Had to get some glam in there to spice it up :)

The set up started off great! And then....it started to rain! So we re-arranged my house and moved everything inside! Then it stopped raining and moved everything back outside literally 5 minutes before guests arrived. Choatic? A little :) Unfortunately some of the decor got damaged in the process but all in all it still came out amazing!

STATIONERY / DECORATIONS:
Being a graphic designer I created the invitation and party decor myself. The invitation was a Baby Batman Onesie that included a black silk cape I attached to the back. The rest of the collection included: a 12x16 Gotham Times newspaper article that I asked the Daddy-To-Be to be the news reporter and write a funny article to the Mommy-To-Be, favor tags, various signs, coffee cup labels, a Price is Right Shopping game card and an Advice From The Joker card (hoping to get some funny bits of advice on what NOT to do with baby. :)

My favorite decoration was the bat signal I created. I won't lie, this was a challenge. But I figured out a way to make it work and stay on the roof! I used a small hula hoop as the main circle for the signal and glued yellow poster board circles I cut out to the hula hoop. I cut out a batman logo out of black sparkly scrapbook paper and then glued that to the front of the yellow poster board. I found some wooden dowels at Home Depot and wrapped wire around the hula hoop and the dowels to attach them together. I then used nylons as the ray of light and spray painted it yellow. But when I put one leg of the nylons over the sticks, the sticks started to turn into each other. So I had to jimmy rig it and add a vertical stick with more wire and hot glue in between the two vertical sticks to keeps them from moving. I added gold tape that ran down the sides of the dowels to add a little flare. With the help of my father, we used some foam rollers and a piece of wood to secure the bat signal in the gutter. It was pretty windy that day so I knew we did a good job securing it when it was still standing at the end of the party! :)

I made a backdrop holder out of pvc pipes and draped black and white chevron fabric as a backdrop for a "Selfie" booth and finished it off with some hanging gold sequin ribbons. I cut out a bunch of superhero props and glued them to white sticks that the guests had a blast with.

The tables were decorated with mason jar centerpieces that I wrapped with black lace, gold stretch sequin ribbon and a blue/white polk-a-dot ribbon, displaying yellow mums sprayed with gold glitter and a black sparkly bat I hot glued to a piece of wire (to make it look like it was flying of course.) I used white plastic table cloths and a handmade black and white polk-a-dot runner a dear friend of mine sewed.

I made yellow, blue, black and white tissue paper pom poms we hung up around the backyard. I also made a Gotham City skyline I cut out of black poster board and glued little black sparkly square "windows" onto the buildings. I used painter stir sticks from Home Depot that I attached to the back of each building to give it support so it wouldn't fall over onto the food. I then attached the skyline to the back of the table with duct tape.

I ordered a handmade Batman black, gold and white circle paper garland off Etsy from SassyPantsNebraska. https://www.etsy.com/shop/SassyPantsNebraska. I asked her to change the yellow to a sparkly gold paper in order to get some more glam into the party and also to add the batman logo. She was amazing and so easy to work with.

FAVORS:
The favors were made by Christa, the other host of the party, who created homemade Doterra Oil Sugar Body Scrubs. She placed them in little mason jars and attached the favor labels I made with some gold baker's twine. She thought of the clever saying "From Christina's Shower, To Yours." Loved it.

FOOD/DRINKS:
Brunch consisted of a blueberry and pineapple "fruit bat" tray (I did my best making the batman logo haha), waffles and syrup, parfaits with berries and granola, two egg quiches, homemade sticky buns by Christa, coffee cake, donuts and the Mommy-To-Be's request: cottage cheese with cinnamon and peaches.

We decided to make a Dunkin' Dominicks iced coffee bar, since the baby's name is well...Dominick :) Plus the Mommy-To-Be loves Dunkin' Donuts. Along with lots of options for the guests, Christa brought homemade lavender syrup and simple syrup. Yum! I created the Dunkin' Dominick sign and coffee cup labels which I turned into stickers and Christa placed on each cup. This was a big hit!
