Party Recap

Baby loves sparkle and Momma loves pink, so we threw Hailey a pink and gold Princess 1st Birthday party. I wanted glam without spending too much, so a lot of the party décor was DIY.
As you walked up to the house, I had a "Goldfield Castle" façade on the garage. A neighbor created castle walls out of Styrofoam for a previous project and was kind enough to let me collect pieces. I sprayed the walls gold and added sparkle spray, a welcome poster, and sparkly banners.
As you approached the front door, you had to cross the drawbridge. I took an old door and covered it with shelf liner that had a wood print. I added brass tacks, gold plastic chains, and a blue plastic wrap "moat" for finishing details.
In the entryway hung a birthday banner I made over the table with party hats. I made princess hats for the girls. The boys could wear knight helmets, breastplates, and shields and I had gold crowns available for anyone who wanted to wear them.
In the hall I enlarged, sparkled, and added crystals to a coordinating princess print and framed it. Below the print, was fresh pink roses and all Hailey's photo albums and her baby book.
In the front room, I placed a pink carpet runner and had her "throne" at the end. I found a tacky kids chair from Goodwill and covered it in beautiful gold and pink damask fabric. I accented it with gold tassel trim and gold rope embellishments. Over her throne was a sparkly "Happy Birthday Hailey" banner I made. There were also balloons and a large print poster of a castle on the wall.
In the dining room, I set up the dessert bar. I hung gold sparkle tulle on the wall tied with gold bows, framing a birthday poster. I made the pink table skirt with pick-ups, gold bows, and a matching gold sparkle tulle underskirt.
The dessert bar had homemade pastries and store bought candy. I made the thank you goody bags for guests to take home their favorite treats.
Next to the dessert bar was the 3-tier table for the cupcakes and Hailey's highchair. I made the pink princess dress highchair cover to match the dessert table, complete with pick-ups, gold bows, tulle underskirt, and big poufy sleeves.
There were two tables outside and one table inside. The tables were dressed in matching gold tablecloths. They had gold candlesticks, large gold crown centerpieces with fresh pink roses and bay's breath. At the end of the tables, there was the cut-out photo prop I painted of Rapunzel (not to scale!) for some picture fun.
In the playroom, I hung the "Kiss the Frog" game I made. The kids really enjoyed playing on the castle slide and with all the playroom toys.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

We had various sandwiches for the adults, as well as macaroni and green salad. The kids had pb&j, pigs-in-a-blanket, and fruit "wands" made of grapes and watermelon.

  • What People Drank

We had pink lemonade in the beverage dispenser, pink champagne in the gold tub, and bottled water and soda in the cooler.

The centerpiece of the dessert bar was Hailey's smash cake. There were homemade pastries: cupcakes, crown cookies, chocolate covered oreos, rice krispy wands, and chocolate covered strawberries. There was also pink gumballs, pink & gold chocolate coins, pink & white meringues, and star & crown lollipops.
