Party Recap...
My son is a huge Harry Potter fan, but wanted to wait until he turned 11 to have a Harry Potter party "because that's when you get to attend Hogwarts." I had a joint party for him and his brother who turned 9 in August. We had 12 boys from their school. I used a lot of ideas gathered from the Internet and added a few twists of my own. Some aspects of preparing were easier because of our location. For example, my gardener carved the wands. My maid cooked the English dinner (fish & chips, pasties, Shepherd's pie, etc), etc. But other aspects are harder because I could only buy what I could haul home from summer home leave in our suitcases. It was a great party. I think the boys favorites were the potions class and the search for the Golden Snitch with a surprise dementor attack.
Party Highlights
Best Moment
Seeing the boys get so excited about their trip to Honeyduke's Sweet Shoppe and the fun they had making potions in the Potions Lab.
Funniest Moment
When the boys attacked the dementor who scared them while outside searching for the missing Golden Snitch.
Best Dressed
Harry Potter, of course! Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore were pretty good too.
What People Ate
Fish & Chips, cornish pasties, Shepherd's pie and a sorting hat cake.
What People Drank
Sprite with Pop Rocks and butterbeer with the cake. It was a delicious hot frothy concoction of milk, melted butter, brown sugar and vanilla.
The Order of Things
1) The students arrive and enter into Hogwart's via Platform 9 3/4. Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall join them in Diagon Alley where we hand out school supplies: their wand, Hogwarts Charms, Spells and Potions Book. (5-5:20) 2) The Sorting Hat Ceremony and Start-of-Term Banquet (5:30-6:15) 3) Divination Class – Prof. Trelawney (6:15-6:45) 4) Potions Class – all 3 professors (6:45-7:15) 5) Transfiguration Class – Prof. McGonagall (interrupted) (7:15-7:20) 6) Search for the Golden Snitch – outside (surprise dementor attack) (7:20-7:30) 7) Handing Out the Reward Money – House Prefect Hermione G. (7:30-7:45) 8) Trip to Honeyduke's– Prof. Dumbledore while McG preps for cake (7:45-8:10) 9) Sorting Hat Cake and Butterbeer – Prof. McGonagal and everyone (8:10-8:30)
