Party Recap

Our son Jack has 3 favourite things in life - Cars (Lightning McQueen and Mater), Thomas the tank engine and Nemo. The Finding Nemo theme came about from a family vote with Jack's sisters voting for the cute clownfish.

I must admit I wasn't super excited about the Finding Nemo theme as Jack is very much a boyish-boy and I was worried about the theme being too gender neutral. So off to the studio I went to design some Nemo party styling that would break the gender neutral barrier. I chose to run with blues and greens and I believe I achieved a boyed-up Nemo theme. What do you think?

When it came to party styling, the invitation was the first cab off the rank... it was a labour of love! It took me 5 hours to cut the card stock then hours after that to carefully piece together 20 invitations. The dots on the letter 'I' were one millimetre in diameter! What a mission, but a mission worth accomplishing for everyone was super impressed when they received them.

The rest of the party styling fell into place after the invitation was designed including wall decorations, 'keep calm' signs, table scatters, party favour boxes and food labels to accompany the seafood style finger food menu and candy buffet.

We played only one game as we knew the kids would just have fun playing. A 'pin the tail' style game and prizes was kindly organised by Jack's nana.

All this was organised in under 2 weeks as we had just relocated from interstate. A big mission to take on because my expectations of myself are so high, but a mission I would not have missed for the world! On the train to and from work every day I did the planning and designing of the party styling, and stayed up late every night creating it all. Just keep swimming... just keep swimming... I kept telling myself!

The night before the big party I finished at 4am and was excited to see it all come together including the gorgeous custom cake we ordered from Michelle's Cakes.

Needless to see, after such a last minute effort, everyone loved the party styling ... but most of all, everyone enjoyed celebrating Jack's 2nd birthday.
