Party Recap

We decided on the theme of “Little World Explorer” for our daughter’s second birthday party for few reasons but, foremost, because she loves to explore and travel- 13 countries thus far for the little one. Since we collect antique maps and anthropological prints the décor was easy to manage. Her “big” present was a trip to Borneo, where she traveled to the week of her birthday, in order to look for the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia, search for endangered species in rainforests, and dance with ethnic minority groups.

My favorite highlights were:
- the repurposed sieves, used for archaeological excavations, as trays for the crackers to accompany the cheese
-photos of her adventures, such as riding a camel in the Arabian desert and an elephant in Asia; we applied a sepia filter to the photos, keeping with the old world aesthetic
-antique National Geographic magazines (which we also read to her :)
-her dress, my Hermes “Pavois” scarf, upcycled by a tailor
-the M.A.T. (Maldivian Air Taxi) luggage label on the cake featuring a seaplane was my favorite, since she was able to ride one last year in Maldives. All of the vintage labels on the cake were some of the places she has visited.
-cheese imported from Alléosse, our favorite fromagerie in Paris
-pink pedal airplane gift

For the DIY elements, we enjoyed a few evenings making the hats, party favor boxes, cupcake wrappers, and invitations after she went to sleep. The best part, she is still talking about the party.
