Party Recap

My 2-year old daughter looooves Minnie Mouse, so there was no question when it came time to throw her a party. I love the red Minnie Mouse over the newer (pink) version, so I set out to throw a homemade classic Minnie Mouse party, and it was a complete blast!!

Idea

Party Highlights

  • Desserts

Cake, Abby's Clubhouse Cake Pops, and "Mini Cakes" (red velvet cupcakes)

  • Activities / Games

Pin the Polka Dot on Minnie's Skirt, Pinata

  • Party Favors

    Fun, personalized goody bags!

  • What People Ate

Hot Diggity Dogs (hot dogs), Oh Toodles! Noodles (baked Mac n Cheese), Pete's Pinwheels (turkey pinwheels from Costco), Veggies from Minnie's Garden (veggie tray), Fanciful Froot (fruit salad), Mouskecheese & Crackers, Pluto's PB&J, Daisy's Devilish Eggs, Goofy's Goldfish (snacks for the kids) and Minnie's Munch Mix (trail mix)

  • Most Touching Moment

My baby girl planting a big wonderful kiss on my cheek! She loved her Minnie birthday party!

Hi Cari, did you want to know how to make the cake pops in general, or the Minnie Mouse part of it (or both)? I can send you directions! :)

Hi Lupe! Yes, we made the piñata. Actually, I put my husband on that task! ;) We basically followed instructions from this blog: http://atsecondstreet.blogspot.com/2010/04/minnie-party-how-tos-part-1.html Very easy to follow instructions! Have fun! :)

Hello, please give me some info on how to make these, both parts..lol. Thanks!

    Nawel V wrote:

Hi Diane! Sure - here's online instructions from Bakerella (cake pop creator!). I followed these pretty much to a "t", except I didn't color my chocolate black. Just cut and paste the link into your web browser. Let me know if you have any questions! Have fun and enjoy! :) http://family.go.com/food/recipe-bakerella-866640-disney-bakerella-minnie-mouse-silhouette-cake-pops-t/

Also, another thing I did differently from the instructions, was that I decided to try mine "upside down", so that the cake pops sat on their bottom, rather than displaying them "top up" in styrofoam. :)

Where did you find the mouse shaped cheese? Adorable idea!

  • Nawel V

    Nawel V wrote:

Hi Tonya! Thank you! Actually, I cut them myself. I got a big block of cheese from Costco, had it sliced at a deli, and then I purchased a set of 3 cookie cutters from E-Bay. The set included a star, a Mickey hand, and a Mickey head, and I just used those to make the cheese shapes. :)

    Nawel V wrote:

Yes! I searched for Mickey cookie cutters on E-bay and found a set of three - it comes with a Mickey head, a star, and a Mickey hand. I think it was like $6 for the set, and then I just cut the cheese slices with those. I use them now for my daughter's sandwiches. She loves 'em! :)

    Nawel V wrote:

Hi there! Not sure if you're familiar with making cake pops, so I apologize if any of this info is basic. After I made the cake balls, I dipped the lollipop stick in melting chocolate, and inserted it into the ball so it would stay secure. The melting chocolate acts like glue and it dries VERY quickly, so you've gotta move fast! :) Anyway, once the sticks were secure, I took 2 round melting chocolates and a small round cookie cutter (I just used the ear portion of a micky mouse cookie cutter I had) and snipped off a small edge of the round chocolate piece. You could probably even just use a knife or something. I dipped that cut edge into a little bit of melting chocolate, and then secured it to the cake ball - one on each side for the ears. Once that was dried (maybe just a few minutes), I carefully dipped the entire cake pop into the melting chocolate and voila! Mickey head! I bought small red candy hearts and dipped the edge of those in melting chocolate, and then put two in the center in between the ears to make it a Minnie head with a bow. :) Hope that helps! Let me know if anything wasn't clear, or if you have any other questions. HAVE FUN!! :)

    Nawel V wrote:

Hi Aigner! Not sure which one you're referring to, but I did make the tent labels. I can send you the template I created in Publisher or Word. If you're talking about the deviled egs, my mom made those! :)

  • Nawel V

    Nawel V wrote:

As for the cupcake toppers, I found those on Etsy - she sends you a printable file and so I just printed out a bunch on cardstock, cut them out, and hot glued the toppers to lollipop sticks. Hope that helps!

Hi, I'm planning a Minnie mouse party for my daughter Talia. Shr turns two in may and loves Mickey mouse club house. Could you please share your templates with me. Also how did you make your invitations. They are just what I was looking for. Did you find the Disney font anywhere in particular? I know I've seen it before. I think you did an amazing job and hope mine looks anywhere close to this.

  • Nawel V

    Nawel V wrote:

Hi Angela! Thank you so much! You're so sweet, and I'm sure that your party will turn out fabulous! I'll definitely send you the templates for the food tents that I have. I can't remember if I saved the templates for the invites, but if I did, I will send them to you. I did them all in Publisher, so I'm not sure if you have that program? For the Disney font, I just google'd "Free Disney font" and downloaded it. There are tons out there! :) As for the invites, they were a labor of love! I bought black cardstock and cut them as big as my envelopes so that it would be a perfect fit. I bought the red & white polka dot paper on sale @ Michael's, and then cut the top and bottom with scalloped scissors. I downloaded a picture from Google images of black background with small white polka dots, and then just pasted it into Word to make that middle border. Cut them out and pasted them onto the red polka dot paper. I pasted the polka dot paper onto the cardstock, and then for the writte part, I got a Google image of a Mickey Mouse head silhouette, pasted that into Word, and then did my white text inside of the head. I realized that I can't print white text onto black paper, so I had to put that black head on white paper so that I could print in white. Make sense? I then copied a Googe image of Minnie Mouse bow and then copied a bunch of them into Word and cut them out, pasted them onto the top of the head, and glued tiny rhinestones in the polka dots. So much fun once they were done, and I got a ton of comments from family and friends. It sounds like a lot (and, like I said, it was a labor of love) but so rewarding when they're finally done and they look so cute. :) Let me know if you have any other questions!! Happy planning, and good luck! I'm sure your party will be GREAT! :)

Aw, thank you! Hi Shelly, thank you! To answer your question, no, the pinata didn't break too easily. It wasn't impossible to break, but if I remember correctly, I think my husband had to give it a good whack after all the kids had a turn, just to get it going. I remember him mentioning that "next time" he'd use less tape, or at least a tape that wasn't quite as srong. Hope that helps! Good luck!! :)
