Party Recap

For my twins 2nd birthday party I decided on an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor theme. Since we have girl/boy twins the I stuck to a neutral color palette of red, brown and blue

DIY PROJECTS:
The first project to tackle was the ice cream parlor awning - which was a perfect job for my hubby :) The awning frame was actually super easy and inexpensive to make. For the canopy I ordered several yards of white fabric, measured out the lines to the desired width and painted on the red stripes and cut the scallop (using a large plate as a template).

Next was the sign that displayed above the dessert table. It was my first attempt at DIY hand drawn chalkboard lettering and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

DESSERTS:
The dessert table was fairly simple with ice cream being the main feature. Guests could choose from a variety of cones, build their own sundae or make their own root beer float.

Other "ice cream inspired" desserts (all made in my very own kitchen) included:
- Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops
- "Drumstick" Cake Pops
- Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes
- Rice Krispy "Ice Cream Bars"
- Chocolate Malts

Instead of a large cake I decided to make very simple, individual cakes for each child.

Danielle - I love the party! Quick question - the "display" of scooped ice cream - did you scoop and then freeze quickly before party? I love the idea that the kids can help themselves then...

Hi Melissa, thanks for checking out my party! Yes, we scooped the ice cream with an old fashioned scoop (to get the round balls) and kept it in the freezer on a cookie sheet until right before the party.
