Party Recap

Like most preschool girls, Rowan is obsessed with the movie "Frozen." Being a mom to a boy, I never thought I'd get a chance to design a sparkly girly "Frozen" party before the craze had passed, so I was psyched to be able to do this for Rowan. There is still glitter in the cracks of my floor. The challenge with movie, book or character inspired parties is to keep the focus on the birthday girl or boy while keeping with the theme. I think we did a pretty good job here! Using glitter tulle, I created a table skirt for the sweets table, then used the excess to make a skirt for the birthday girl's chair and a drape above the sweets table. The look was very "princess-y" and Rowan was thrilled. A thick batting layer on the sweets table resembled snow and I used pillow stuffing in the "snowball" cake pop display to mirror a snowbank. The Elsa cake and cupcakes were all displayed atop clear vases with "Frozen" themed dioramas inside. They were at the toddlers eye-levels, and they were just tickled to see their favorite characters. Crown wrapped cupcakes, snowflake cookies and "icicle" rock candy with flags that read "Let It Go" filled out the dessert table. Rowan's mom had already started the planning process before I came into the mix, but her vision was right on target. Snowflake table covers adorned the kids table, and for a pop of color, I tied purple sashes to the kids chairs and added a snowflake. Using the blue mason jars she had already purchased, I made snowflake wand centerpieces that guests could take home. She had leftover castles from Rowan's sister's birthday party, so crafty kids got to decorate them. No "Frozen" party is complete without Elsa & Anna, who came to read, sing and dance with the adoring guests.
