Party Recap

What’s not to love about a rainbow party? Little girls seem to gravitate towards all the colors and brightness of this timeless theme.

The day was a special one, not only for the birthday girl, who was turning seven, but myself and her father also. It was filled with great memories that will last a lifetime. Seven is a magical age for a girl…leaving the “little girls” behind but not yet keeping up with the “big girls” yet, they seem to grow into their own style and comfort level at this age.

I was so excited when our daughter told us she wanted a Rainbow themed birthday this year. The color palette was an easy one to work with. Using all the primary rainbow colors made the day come alive.

Hand crafted rainbow flowers adorned the table as well as rainbow themed personalized muslin gift bags for each guest, which doubled as the place cards. Each personalized bag had a hand woven rainbow friendship bracelet in it along with some rainbow themed notepads, pencils and lollipops.

The otherwise dull folding chairs received a little facelift with the help of a cloud and rainbow chair backer that helped brighten up the table.
Keeping the décor focus on the rainbow, with some clouds thrown in there for a background, the main sweets table was shared with chocolate covered Oreos wrapped in an array of colored chocolate and rainbow sugar cookies bigger than your hand. The main confections were the rainbow and cloud cupcakes which were the perfect marriage of white buttercream frosted cupcakes and a decadent rainbow fondant topper. The birthday girl had her own petite personalized cake complete with rainbow tutu garland and glittered personalized name topper.
We kept the menu simple as we served the girls an assortment of “Nature’s Rainbow” which were small cups of assorted fresh fruit and a puffed corn and cheese snack which we called the “clouds”. (aka Pirates Booty) In addition, each place setting also had a mini bottle of water that was decorated with its own rainbow bottle label and matching paper straw, which of course made the water taste even better.
One of the best kept secrets of the day were the little rainbow polka dotted gable boxes on the main table that had a golden surprise inside. After all, at the end of the rainbow IS the gold, right?! Each of these cute boxes had gold foil wrapped chocolate coins in them for good luck.
The best part of the party, according to the birthday girl, was the photo booth. The girls could not get enough time in front of the camera. Using a fun assortment of props including umbrellas, clouds, mustaches, ties, glasses and hats, they had a great time acting and posing for pictures. I used an ombre shower curtain for the backdrop along with a tutu rainbow colored garland. It was simple but very effective. The birthday girl was in almost every shot with all her friends. She looked oh so cute in her rainbow outfit from the top of her head with her rainbow hair tie and headband to her hand sewn rainbow shirt.

The day could not have gone any better. At the end (of the rainbow), everyone went home with goodies in their hands and great memories in their minds. I was so happy that the birthday girl couldn’t wipe the smile off her face for hours after the party had ended.

After all….

You’re never too old or too young to love rainbows and all the magic they have to offer
