Party Recap

When time came to plan my daughter's second birthday; I wanted to create something original, yet something that not every other little girl has had. My daughter's favorite movie is Peter Pan. She loves it when we hold her in the air and pretend like she's flying. She gets so excited when Peter teaches the children to fly, and they bounce on the bed; and finally fly off to Neverland. With this movie being on repeat in our house for months on end; I knew that that was our theme! I was initially worried that a "Peter Pan" birthday might be a little too boyish; so I scoured Pinterest to look for inspiration. I knew that I wanted to go in the direction of classic, simple, and girly. Since a large portion of the movie is centered around Peter loosing his shadow; we went with black silhouettes instead of traditional characters. Our color palette was black, lime green, and a vibrant purple. And it was amazing! Black silhouette characters lined our walk way; leading to a large directional sign met the guests as they entered our home. Pixie dust, hand painted pirate ships, captain hook centerpieces, treasure chests, tinker bell trapped inside a lantern, and black picture frames with sayings from the movie and characters made for a perfect Neverland party; where even adults still wished they didn't grow up!

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

Before dinner was served; guests snacked on "Lost Boy's Chicken dip," various veggies and dips, potato chips, and for the kids; "Captain Hook's Pirate Booty." Dinner was a full fledge southern BBQ. Complete with pulled pork, baked beans, pasta salad, fruit salad, caesar salad, green beans, and BBQ chicken.

  • What People Drank

To keep the theme alive, guests sipped on nothing other than "Pixie Juice." To keep the adults happy; we had an alcoholic version of the green colored kool-aide concoction, along with a non-alcoholic version for the children to enjoy as well.

  • Desserts

I like to go all out on desserts at all the parities I throw; and this was no exception. The dessert table really stole the show and since it was one of the first things guests saw as they arrived; I wanted it to be filled with colorful desserts to match the theme perfectly. Guests were able to take a favor bag on their way out to fill with; "Skull Rock Candy," "Wendy's Cake Pops," "Tinkerbell's Pixy Styx," Mr. Smee's Cannon Balls," "Crocodile Gummies," and "Pan's Peanut Butter Cupcakes. And of course the beautiful "Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust" two tiered cookies and cream and peanut butter ganache cake was the centerpiece on the table.

  • Party Favors

Along with their dessert bag, guests left with a beautifully designed sugar cookie that adorned one of four different black silhouettes of the characters from the movie. I wrapped in them clear baggies, and attached a personalized favor tag to them with colored ribbon. It was a perfect and delicious way to say thank you to all who helped celebrate the birthday girl.
