Party Recap

My oldest daughter selected a hula girl party theme for her 9th birthday, so we turned our backyard into a Hawaiian paradise for an afternoon. We had Hawaiian-inspired foods, tropical drinks, and even Hawaiian brand chips, all requested by the birthday girl.
My favorite part was the Tiki Hut favor shop. Instead of making goody bags, we created a "shop" where each girl selected their own bags and filled them with one of each item... This way kids could use some of the favors during the party (hair clips, hula skirts, etc). Swimming and use of our newly installed zip line into the pool were the main attraction for the girls, but we also had a hula girl pinata (who was rendered headless after the first blow), a hula hoop contest, and the limbo. I made simple cupcakes from a pineapple box mix, and coconut buttercream frosting, as well as pineapple-upside-down cupcakes. We used Pirouette cookies to create the look of bamboo around the cake and topped it off with toasted coconut and a cute dashboard hula girl. Besides the cupcakes, we also served Island Way Sorbet frozen treats in coconut and pineapple shells. We were blessed with beautiful weather and loved spending the day with friends and family.
