Party Recap

My son turned two and we wanted to have a small birthday with our closest friends and family. I know 45 guests is not small but our families are just too big that a guest list of 45 is really small than usual. There was a total of 3 toddlers and one 7 month old baby girl. It was small, it was simple, and it was kind of theme-less (rainbow theme?) but it was awesome and everyone had a great time. I also baked every treat and my mom made all the food. There was Salvadorian sandwiches, nachos, horchata (rice beverage) and iced tea. There was also chocoflan bites, tres leches cake, cookies, rainbow chip birthday cake, rainbow fruit platter, veggie platter, mixed nuts, guacamole and salsa which were both made by mother in law. http://plainjesse.blogspot.com/2014/01/my-sons-simple-and-bright-second.html

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

My mom made Salvadorian sandwiches which is shredded chicken in gravy and stuffed into french bread with cabbage and pico de gallo. We also had nachos with cheese, chili, and jalapenos. There was a variety of fruit, veggies with ranch dip, mixed nuts, guacamole, salsa, tortilla chips, cookies, chocoflan bites ( a Mexican dessert favorite), cupcakes, and cake of course.

  • What People Drank

We had water, iced tea, 100% juice boxes for kids, and horchata. My mom actually made the Salvadorian version of horchata which tastes a little bit like chocolate.

  • Best Moment

My favorite moment was when we all realized that there was so much culture involved in the party. There was Salvadorian touches, Honduran touches, Mexican touches, American touches, Vietnamese guests, Chinese guest, and Cambodian guests. I am so happy to be surrounded by so much culture and happy that my son will grow up knowing so much more than I ever had.

  • Funniest Moment

The funniest moment had to be when all the kids (including the 7 month old) were on cars. All four them where in the living room riding cars for about an hour.

  • Most Touching Moment

One of my favorite moments was when my son started smiling because everyone was singing happy birthday to him. He loved having all that attention just to himself.

  • Desserts

For dessert we had tres leches cakes topped with fruit and a rainbow chip cake.

  • Party Favors

The toddlers each got stickers, toddler gummies, crayons, and a note pad. For the 7 month old baby, I gave her 2 fruit puree pouches and a baby book.

  • Activities / Games

There was a table set up for the kids with blocks, construction paper, crayons, stickers, balls, and books. There was also plenty of cars for the kids to ride on and huge backyard for them to play.

  • Budget

The budget was about $300.00 for food, drink, decorations, favors, and desserts.
