THEME: Indonesian Kebaya-Inspired First Birthday

We still can't get over how darling this Modern Indonesian Kebaya Girl-themed 1st birthday is. For those of you who have never heard of kebaya before, kebaya is a traditional blouse-dress combination that originates from Indonesia. The top is usually made from materials such as silk and thin cotton and it's worn with a batik sarong. There are many varieties of kebaya, made of different materials and worn with different types of sarong.

When Sophia's Mom contacted us to organize and style her daughter's birthday, we quickly started to brainstorm and the idea of a little girl wearing a kebaya had our hearts settled on it since Sophia's family is Indonesian. Sophia wore a kebaya on her birthday and she was beyond adorable!

DECORATIONS:

Sophia's Mom wanted a girly touch to the theme so we went ahead with pink, green, and brown as the color scheme. We incorporated batik fabric and some other ethnic Indonesian elements to the decorations. There were personalized napkin wrappers, menu cards, umbrella-shaped programs, pinwheels and flower arrangements in mason jars for centerpieces, and personalized kids activity sheets.

DESSERTS:

The desserts table features an array of Indonesian sweets, cakes, milk, and a birthday cake. A cute girl wearing an Indonesian kebaya, and umbrella, and a set of gamelan (Indonesian traditional ensemble music) was nicely set as a cake topper. The backdrop was banners of Sophia's pictures from the time she was born until 11 months adorned with pink frames, on a green board. Each dessert was decorated with a variety of accents, such as mini umbrellas and picks. We added batik fabric to the chocolate milk bottles as a finishing touch.

FOOD:

A mouth-watering spread of Indonesian delicacies, that consisted of yellow fragrant rice, chicken satay, egg rolls, and many more.

ACTIVITIES:

A balloon artist and a face painter kept the kids entertained through out the party. Kids coloring sheets were also provided to keep the kids busy!
