Party Recap

For my son's first birthday party, there was no theme, just lots of bright colors and lots of photos of the birthday boy. The main colors for the party were yellow, aqua and coral. I made a DIY photo "booth" for guests to take photos with fun accessories during the party. To see more of his party, visit icecreamoffpaperplates.wordpress.com.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

Hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixins, cheese curls and pretzels (the birthday boy's favorites), pasta salad, bean salad, baked beans, cheese and crackers, broccoli salad

  • What People Drank

Pink lemonade, sodas, water, beer and wine

  • Funniest Moment

We used an old antique high chair for the birthday boy to have his first birthday cake in. As we served him his smash cake, he stepped onto the serving tray and stood up.

  • Best Dressed

The birthday boy was the best dressed of course! He wore a bowtie onesie set and a party hat with a number 1 on it.

  • Desserts

Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and ice cream sundaes and cones

  • Party Favors

Photos from the DIY "photo booth"

  • Activities / Games

We created a "photo booth" with a chair, a backdrop made from fabric strips and streamers, and various fun accessories, including boas, crazy sunglasses, and a mini chalkboard to write messages on. We also made mustaches, lips and bowties on sticks to use in the photos. Other activities included some outside games for the grown-ups.

  • Budget

Our budget was $300. We spent about $200 on food and $100 on decorations.

  • Invitation

I designed an invitation using my son's face and party hats as the inspiration. I also made envelope liners from a picture of my son surrounded by balloons.

I used microsoft publisher. But all I did was enlarge photos of him and printed them in black and white on cardstock. Then I just cut out his head.

Thanks! I made them myself. I sell a printable version of the invitation in my Etsy shop (A Scoop or Two Designs). The envelopes I made by printing out photos of my son and then making them into envelope liners. I have DIY instructions on my blog Ice Cream Off Paper Plates for making envelope liners...it's pretty easy!

for the cutouts, did you have the hat on or did you add that later? If you added it later, what program did you use to create those? Thank you!! SO Cute!

Thanks!! I just cut the hats out of scrapbook paper and glued them onto the faces. Then I decorated the hats with tissue paper and ribbon.
