Party Recap

One year ago I became a mother to a gorgeous, funny, cheeky and sweet baby girl.
When I started planning my daughter's first birthday party I didn’t quite know which theme to choose. For some reason, being in the party business, it’s always harder to design themes for my own celebrations than it is to design for my customers.

One of my daughter’s favourite activities is going to Baby Rhyme Time at our local library, she loves dancing and clapping to the songs we sing. One day it dawned on me that I could choose one of those songs as a starting point for her party decor. I went with “twinkle twinkle little star”, one of her favourites, and designed the party printables with stars, in a soft pink, purple and gold colour scheme.
I wanted something simple and sweet, and the star details really tied everything together.

We had an intimate celebration at our home, with just a few of our closest friends and family members. We served a light lunch and then had a little dessert table with fruit cups, mini muffins, vanilla pannacotta with raspberry coulis, marshmallow pops, and of course the birthday cake.
I baked the cake myself, which was a bit of a challenge, but I loved the end result and the surprise on our guests’ faces when we served it. It was an ombre layered pound cake with a whipped white chocolate ganache frosting. Delicious! I added some gold glitter star toppers and a golden number 1 candle and I loved how these little touches made it look so pretty. It really stood out on the cake stand in the centre of the table.

Along with the printable food labels, toppers and flags I designed, the table decorations also included a custom stats poster, a tissue paper tassel garland and gold foil balloons spelling “ONE”. There was also a high chair banner with little tissue paper tassels on each end.
I printed her pictures I had been taking every month and put them on display too, these were a hit with the guests and one of my favourite details.
Guests went home with a small chocolate bar favor and the little ones got a personalised goodie bag each.

A first birthday is such a beautiful milestone, for both the baby and parents. I loved celebrating this day with our nearest and dearest, and seeing my daughter so happy. My heart was absolutely full at the end of this day!
