Party Recap

Being an avid party decorator, I love to seize every opportunity to throw a party and my kids birthdays are no exception. My oldest daughter had just turned 6 and we’d been scheming to have a unicorn ice cream birthday party for her since last year.

On the morning of my daughter’s birthday, my girls ran down stairs and oohed and aahed over the party decorations. The looks on my kids faces was priceless and so worth all the time I put into the planning. Mostly, I like to keep my parties simple yet elegant. Creating a unique party theme and picking out the perfect color scheme are important parts of the planning process.

In regards to food preparation, my main thought is, “How can I get by with the least amount of baking?” Although baking isn’t my strong point, I have found ways to get around that. For example, I bought ice cream toppings in the baking and candy isles and I found some colorful sprinkle donuts in the bakery section. Also, decaf coffee punch was a big hit. My little two-year old boy especially loved it and kept going back for more.

On my quest for decorations, I discovered some beautiful pink hanging paper fans at Hobby Lobby. They have a huge selection of colors in the party section. Also, Target is another great option to check for party supplies. Target has the dollar spot right in the front of the store, which is full of unique items. I’m constantly checking in to buy confetti, banners, holiday decorations, you name it! Plus you can’t beat the price!

Last but not least, my personal favorite decoration was the unicorn head pinata. My husband and I made this by hand and it was easy and fun! We used card board to shape the unicorn head and tissue paper for the final touches. YouTube has some easy tutorials to follow. Our pinata was more sturdy than usual and we had to ask the older kids to whack it pretty hard to get the candy out! All’s well that ends well!
