Party Recap

My daughter Charlotte is a loving, caring, and sweet baby girl. For her first birthday party I wanted a theme that would mirror her little personality. Something that could be as sweet and fun as she is. I fell in love with the idea of doing an Alice in Wonderland theme for her very first birthday and in order to make it sweet and whimsical, it needed to have a vintage feel. Ideas just flowed through my head and I knew exactly what I wanted to do!
The first decision that I needed to make was the color scheme. It needed to be dreamy and girly so I decided to use pastels. The next decision was getting ideas for the decor. Since I was doing a vintage feel to the Alice in Wonderland theme I decided to go shopping at the local Vintage stores in Denver. There, I was able to find great old books that included an old Alice In Wonderland book and the perfect high chair for my daughter to sit at while she ate her first birthday cake. My mom also had several great pieces in her home, like a candelabra and porcelain teacups that I was able to use as centerpieces for the party.
The day of the party was a little nerve racking. I set my eyes on a beautiful spot at park in the city of Northglenn, CO. The spot was perfect to host this party! It was in the middle of several tall trees right next to a lake with beautiful scenery. The thing is, Colorado is known to have extreme weather changes and having a party at a park with no type of protection from the weather at the end of July is asking for trouble! I prayed all week for the weather to be perfect that day and indeed it was.
For the table décor, I used different centerpieces for each table. I used flowers, candles, vintage books, and of course teacups filled with kettle corn popcorn for guests to take. Each table also had a painted teacup plaque with quotes from the Alice in Wonderland movie. The amazing high chair I found at the vintage store needed a little makeover so I decided to hand paint it in chalk paint and used a baby blue color to match the color pallet. I painted two other vintage chairs in old white chalk paint as well and upholstered them in flower patterns so we can sit on them while we opened her presents. Charlotte’s birthday attire included the two cutest little outfits I have ever seen. One was a beautiful old pink ruffled romper that was used for our family pictures and the other one was a little Alice in Wonderland blue dress and apron to fit the theme. No detail was spared!
My favorite part of the party besides the birthday girl was the dessert table. The background took me a few hours to make. I used several tablecloths and cut them into ribbons to make that beautiful background. The picture frames with her initial in the middle complemented the ribbons beautifully. The dessert table had cupcakes that I had baked myself as well as little rice Krispy treats that I added heart candy to make them look like the deck of cards from the movie. There was a beautiful and delicious strawberry flavor cake made by a friend, blue bubble gum balls, marshmallows, and red gummies throughout the dessert table and of course little vintage details to represent the theme.
The birthday party turned out to be a success! The weather was perfect for a Colorado summer and the guests including the birthday girl had a great time. Everything turned out better than I had envisioned. All the great little details turned out perfect when put together and gave the party the exact look I was going for; sweet and fun just like my daughter Charlotte.
