Party Recap

OOH OOH AAH AAH! The birthday boy has a mischievous streak, and since he's a huge Curious George fan, it seemed like a great theme. I wanted to add some interactivity for the guests, so the circus came to the "family fairgrounds." We were lucky that Curious George book colors just happened to be stereotypical for a circus! We took a page from the series and mixed patterns within the color scheme, and it was a feast for the eyes. The kids received personalized bags with tickets to play the games- most of which were DIY. (hubby had no trouble drinking beer so we had bottles for the ring toss!) They redeemed prize tickets at the prize board- essentially picking their own favors. While the children had the opportunity to decorate clown hats, adults got a kick out of the clown noses (strategically placed on the bar). Attendees were told to "Go Bananas" with props at the "photo booth." Pictures were finished with a vintage effect and mailed to guests with thank you notes. No circus is complete without a clown (natch) and the birthday boy squealed with delight when Curious George arrived: "MOMMY! There's a monkey in my house!!!" Curious Grey got to see his "G" in lights on the concession table. Mini burgers and bbq sliders were adorned with washi tape flags. The circus cake took center stage on the dessert table. The stand was a popcorn tin repainted to look like the platform on the cover of the "Curoius George Goes To The Circus" book. It was such a tasty showstopper! Cupcake toppers were cut in the shape of a monkey's head and the Curious George cake pops were almost too cute to eat. Almost.

Party Highlights

  • Desserts

A circus tent cake took center stage on the dessert table. Three flavors of cupcakes, candy in event colors, and animal crackers (natch), helped fill out the table. The biggest hit were the Curious George cake pops. They were almost too cute to eat. Almost.

  • Party Favors

Kids essentially selected their own favors from the prize board. Guests went home with clown noses and the photos from the photo station were sent with thank you notes.

  • Activities / Games

A tent with circus games: Ring Toss, Bean Bag Toss, Tin Can Alley and Duck Pond kept the guests entertained. Children got to decorate their own clown hats and guests were encouraged to "Pick A Prop, Go Bananas" at a photo station.

  • What People Ate

The "Concessions Stand" had mini bbq sammies, mini burgers and corn dogs, in addition to healthier fare. The corn dogs were a hit- especially for the parents!

  • Funniest Moment

The birthday boy squealed "Mommy! There's a monkey in my house!" when Curious George arrived.
