I originally saw the idea on Kara's Party Ideas, however she didn't have a tutorial. I was able to do a Google search and found this link:

I found that her method didn't work in keeping the ears more flush against the curve of the lantern, so I improvised a bit. I used large cup to trace circles and cut them out. Then I used a flattened lantern to trace the circular shape along the end of a circle. If you look closely, you can see a tab tacky glued in the front, and then the larger tabs on the edge on either side are glued in the back. I found that I could bend the tabs back in a slightly curved way, but mostly just angled. Even that made the ears rest better and more flush along the globe. Good luck!
