Hi Jodi,
They are painters canvases. I cut the initials out of vinyl and stuck them to the canvas, then the kics painted over the initial then added splatter painted the on top. Once dry, remove the vinyal letter, and the silhouette fo their inital shows through. Alot of fun, wear messy clothes ;-)
