Party Recap

Kerry just wanted a small BBQ for his 60th birthday with a few of his oldest friends, however we felt we had to do a little bit more for such a momentous occasion.

It began by creating a special signature drink of local Moscato wine and various fruit juices that we dubbed “Kezza’s Kruisers” (Kruisers being a take on a popular Australian vodka brand called ‘vodka cruisers’).

The table consisted of different elements that make up a BBQ, all immortalised in lolly form.

We had “burgers” made out of mango macarons and fondant, “burgers” made out of gummi lollies and decorated with little flags, rock sticks to emulate “lamb shanks”, red macarons with tomato vines as “tomatoes” and gold chocolate coins to represent the “meter money” to make the public BBQ machines run.

French fry chips were made to look like “Hot Chips” and cupcakes were adorned with spearmint lollies and buttered popcorn jellybeans to make “corn on the cobs”.

We were able to purchase mini packets of tic-tacs to which I put a label over the top of to make them look like “lighters” to light the BBQ and small jars and test tubes worked really well to create “spice mix” and “condiments”.

Some of the other items on the table were “tacos” made from cookies split in half and filled with crushed chocolate biscuits (as minced meat), glace cherries (as tomatoes), diced dried apricot (as cheese blocks) and green dyed coconut (as lettuce).

“Kabobs” (sour strawberry straps and marshmallows) were a hit, as were the chocolates in wrappers featuring the slogan “we got really messy” which is also Australian slang for having a great time.

The most popular pieces to the table were the “beer goggles” that created spontaneous giggles and the red bbq centrepiece that was filled with all the kinds of lollies that Kerry loves best.
