i bought a pack of 4 soccer cones from walmart, cut the top off and taped a 3oz. plastic cup. I then spayed it with Great Stuff insulating foam (also from walmart). And finally sprayed the brown color.

    Did they actually explode?

yes. i put in the 3oz. cup white vinegar with red food coloring then gave each kid a small cup with 1 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda. When they put the baking soda in the vinegar it made the eruption.

This is actually my Christmas tree. (my tree is divided into 3 parts...bottom is the widest) First, I took off the small top part of the tree and then wrapped the tree around with mailing paper and stapled the seems. I put a bowl on top of the tree and folded the top end of the paper into the bowl and tapped it. To make the smoke I put dry ice in the bowl and added hot water to it. Good Luck!

@ Katie... the volcanos are made with spray paint and spray insulating foam , which can be found at any home improvement store and costs around 2.50/can. One can is plenty for 1 volcano. yes, hi. I went to sams club and got cardboard. this one was flat and the edge was 3" to 4" high. I had mailing paper (you can buy at the Dollar Tree) and stapled it to the edges so they could kneel on it.
