Party Recap

My little girl is obsessed with dinosaurs - completely and utterly obsessed. And, Land Before Time is her favorite of them all. So, with her 4th birthday approaching, we knew we would have to have a Land Before Time inspired dinosaur party. And, per her request, it had to be a water party too.

Idea

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

The children ate brontosaurus bites (mini hotdogs) while the adults enjoyed pterodactyl sliders (barbecue chicken sliders with Asian slaw). Also available was green food (crudite platter), watermelon spikes, frozen dino eggs (grapes), bright circle (sun) chips, and tree star sweets (cookies).

  • What People Drank

Sky water (water and lemonade) and swamp punch

  • Desserts

    Strawberry dinosaur cake

  • Party Favors

Party favors included foam dinosaur feet, pink dinosaur shaped soap, chocolate dino eggs, and dinosaur shaped sand toys.

  • Activities / Games

The children played in the backyard swingset and in the wading pool.

  • Budget

This was really a very inexpensive party. The decorations cost less than $40, favors less than $20, and the food was probably around $50. Altogether one of the least expensive parties I've ever thrown.

This is so cute! Done very well! I am throwing my son a dinosaur/Land Before Time party. Can you tell me how you did the cutouts of the characters? And the "silouette sticker" of Littlefoot on the cups and bags. Thanks, Valerie

Valerie, the large cutouts were projected onto plywood, cut with a jigsaw, and painted. The silhouettes on the cups is vinyl cut with a Silhouette Cameo cutter.

My son loooves dinosaurs, so I plan on doing a Land Before Time birthday party theme for him!! You did such an awesome job!! Did you make the big cut outs yourself or get them done somewhere?

Raechelle, I did the cutouts myself. It's become something of a tradition for the kids parties to do these.

Christine, First the party pictures are adorable. Would you be willing to sell those big cutouts?

Elizabeth, I'd certainly consider it. Email me at [email protected] with your city/state. Having sold other cutouts before, I know that the shipping can be quite high!

Meg Meg M, I projected the dinos onto 1/4" plywood, jigsawed, sanded, and painted. For my daughters most recent party, I took coloring page files to Kinko's and had them printed out large; I mounted them on $1 foam core from the Dollar Tree; cut them out with an exacto knife; and colored them with Prismacolor markers. It waa much easier, although the characters weren't as large. For the cups/other decor, I have a Silhouette craft cutter that I used.

Kristi, I just used a maple leaf cookie cutter! It probably came from Michael's at some point.

I love this! I only wish I had seen it sooner. I'm throwing a girly dinosaur bday party tomorrow and would have loved to make these props! It's too late but I'd love to try and make the food labels! Is there a link to them?
