Party Recap

The inspiration for this preppy surf party came from his plaid Gap swim trunks. The crisp navy, orange and light blue color scheme and preppy prints are carried throughout the party in printables, food and decor. The boys loved playing with the bright blue and orange beach balls that covered the yard and pool area.

Party Highlights

  • What People Ate

Guest were invited to dive into shred, curls, long boards, and shells after reading Luke’s “surf report.” I love this keepsake of Luke’s favorite thing as at this age and it makes a great backdrop for the serving table. Drinks included orange Gatorade and surfs up dude drink bottles for the boys while adults sipped a signature cocktail, The Smashed Surfer.” The boys’ dinners were prepackages in takeout boxes with the tag “Dive In” on top. The boxes were set on crab placemats poolside. Centerpiece were simple jars of gold fish with party symbols cut on my Cricut.

  • What People Drank

A huge 36 inch balloon with coordinating tassel welcomed the boys to The Crab Shack. The boys treated themselves to lots of fun snack food including sand bars, surf soda, blueberry cups, fish, pearls, sea glass and vanilla cupcake with adorable fondant toppers by Roni’s Sugar Creations.

  • Desserts

The dessert table was filled with beach inspired desserts including Ocean Water Jello Cups, Snow Cone Cupcakes, The orange candy on this table included beach balls salt water taffy and The Wedge sugared orange slices- a nod to our annual vacation in Newport Beach. A custom Luke’s Surf Board Rental Company Sign with his birth year hung behind the table. Amazing long board sugar cookies which matched the invitation by Bambella Cookies and the most incredible crab cake pops with by Cake Poppin. Cool cupcake toppers by Roni’s Sugar Creations matched the invitation perfectly. A simple buttercream cake from a local bakery was decorated with brown sugar “sand”, a plaid 8 for the birthday boy and the sweetest little crab by Edible Details. Luke’s smash cake this year was an ombre blue cake with his name on the top. I used my Cricut to cut this out also. The smash cake is a tradition we started and is something my kids look forward to each year. I am so proud of how this turned out since I am so far from being a baker.
