Party Recap

My 8 year old daughter loves the Movie Teen Beach so I wanted to try to create the retro beach party mood from the movie. Basically it's a beach party from the 60's. Our house was like scenes from the Movie- Big Moma's, Lela's bedroom, and of course the beach! I purchased most of the Luau items at the end of season clearance at Party city- grass skirt table cloths, tiki torches, paper lanterns, blow up beach balls, surf boards, palm trees, hula hoops, fish nets and an awesome 20' beach scene setter which covered an entire room like the beach! We made some things that were unique to the movie out of cardboard- like Lela's surf board and the Big Moma sign.
We reserved a huge water slide so the girls could 'ride the waves'. But just in case it rained, I had prepared a few crafts- Mac's head wreath and Lela's friendship necklace. I even decorated our dining like the scene from Lela's bedroom for a little spa time. I took all of my daughter's pink things from her room- rug, bed spread and stuffed animals. I also covered up 2 chairs with pink beach towels. I had a little helper to do nails and make them up with pony tails! Lots of pink bubble gum available too!
For lunch the girls ate in Big Moma's style - hamburger sliders and hot dogs. To drink they had Izze soda's-(retro looking but without all the sugar) and pink paper straws. They sat on their towels in the yard ( I was also prepared to do this in my house to make room for them all but luckily we got a beautiful day) The soundtrack provided great back ground music too! They did the limbo (found a bamboo stick at Home Depot) and did the dances from the movie. Goodie bags were salt water taffy and a surf board or flip flop cookie. It was lots of fun!

Hi Sallie, I wouldn't be concerned about not having nice weather to do this party. I had planned to do it all inside (sans waterslide) since there was a threat of rain. I would make it a dinner/evening party. The girls can eat Big Momma style food, do crafts, Hair & nails and dance! It's best to do nails after crafts since stringing pearls with wet nails is tricky! I got All the craft supplies at Michael's: The charms are Martha Stewart and come on a card of 4, the string was Stretch Magic (1MM)and the pearl beads were 6mm. the bail clasp for the charms were Beadalon. You would need about 60 pearls per necklace, they come in bags of 500?. I would make a test one first since the string has to be stretched first or it will not tie. Most of the girls were only 8 so I prepared the strings and clamped the bail clasp on the charms ahead of time. To assemble them, bead one side then tape the end down; add the charm and then bead the other half. Stretch the ends of the cords before knotting. You could nix the pearls and just use black cording but we were trying to make it look like Lela's. I also pre-made the floral wire crowns ahead of time and let the girls wrap the flowers around it to decorate. The wire was a green covered floral wire and the flowers were in small wired bunches in the bridal section..I just pulled them apart. Also, I got the flower cut outs for the goody bags off the Disney Teen Beach Movie Premier website. They have some cute ideas and free printables. All the decorations were on clearance @Party City and Kmart! Good Luck-Have fun!

Hi Jennifer- I googled Teen beach movie edible cake image. There are several sites that have them. I got it from an Esty site call Lovely Toppers. They personalized it as well and it arrived within 2 days. The colors weren't exact but it was cute.
