52'' Thick Sturdy Spalted Wood Walking Stick for XL Hands

Want a hiking staff that's strong AND extra unique?

This natural, rustic walking stick has over 20 gorgeous wooden diamonds, and unique spalding or spalted wood, where the wooden diamonds run together and twist and turn the wood.

No stains or paints used whatsoever. Finished with 5 coats of clear poly that really make the natural colors pop out.

GIRTH: Hand grip girth is best for a XL-XXL ADULT HAND (determined by what size work or winter glove you wear), as it is now. HOWEVER, we can often make it thinner so it fits your hand better by sanding it down a bit, if you need us to, at no charge.

MAX. WT. 400 LBS: This heavy duty diamond willow wood walking stick can hold a lot of weight__whether one needs to lean on their walking stick to take weight off a knee, hip or ankle, or if one is a little overweight or even severely obese, you can count on this sturdy hiking staff.

HAS CURVES: This walking staff has a few curves, making it extra intriguing, but the stick stands straight for the most part and works great. (I use one all the time and can verify that crooked hiking sticks work great and have marvelously charming character.)

Great for hiking or camping trips, as well as every day use to help you get around, taking pressure off your knees, hips, etc.. Make a great substitute for a walking cane, too.

This walking staff is a OOAK (one of a kind) item made from native northern Minnesota diamond willow tree, and handcrafted by me, a local, experienced artisan.

WE CAN SHORTEN, at no charge. We'll happily cut it down for you. Just let us know the length you want. Measure twice and we'll cut once.

SIZE GUIDE: For FLAT terrain, or rolling hills and groomed trails, a walking staff should be about 4-6" above the elbow, or a few inches below the shoulder. For HILLY terrain, a stick that's shoulder height or even a few inches above the shoulder is often preferred to help when descending. But preferences vary, and not all bodies are proportioned the same (eg, wrist to elbow, elbow to shoulder, etc.).

This can probably hold more weight, but I wouldn't want to guarantee that since I'm "only" 200 lbs. and test each stick to make sure it's sturdy, just by trying to bend it, but I don't run and jump with it. Wood does age, so be sure to inspect your gear regularly before use.

DISCLAIMER: Since this is wood, and we're not a factory, I make no guarantees about the future condition of this walking stick, but CAN GUARANTEE it was strong without any large cracks when I harvested, cured, coated, listed, and packed it for shipping after it sells, inspecting it at each step along the way. However, PLEASE INSPECT ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT before each use to make sure no cracks or weaknesses have developed over time. Stay safe!

NATURAL MARKINGS

The natural colors are spectacular, looking so much better in person than I'm able to capture with photos.

DIAMONDS:
Covered with an exceptional array of diamonds, with all sorts of wonderful twisting curves and a variety of tan, caramel, dark brown and reddish brown colors.

RAILING:
Has a bit of the highly coveted, unique and rare semi_railing effect, where the diamonds become one with the wood and twist and turn the wood due to spalding/spalting.

Some "diamonds" even stick out like an ear, where you could pinch both sides, and maybe lace or pierce something through them.

INSECT MARKINGS:
Has a few insect and/or worm hole markings on this stick.

Worm and other insect markings are actually coveted, as they are more rare than diamonds themselves. They help create a unique design, character to the stick, and add another dimension to the story of how efficient nature works.

The worms or insects have long disappeared since I dry my sticks for several months, then sand and coat with poly.

A very unique piece with great character.

I'm limited in number of characters I can use in drop down instructions, so 'Handle' means you get a paracord wrapped hand grip PLUS braided wrist strap.

HAND GRIP
...................
A rope wrap can only go at the 50" mark or below. See my note in the very 2nd paragraph at top of this listing. Grip will be 5-6'' in length, and made of 550 paracord that can be removed if needed for emergency survival uses. Keep in mind a hand grip will add to the girth.

Please MESSAGE me ASAP after purchase to let me know your height or where you prefer to have your hand grip. I will then look and make sure a hand grip is possible at that spot (make sure it's comfy and there are no protrusions or twisting diamonds there) .

IF WE DON'T HEAR FROM YOU:
__ I'll put the hand grip where I presume someone who orders a stick of this height might like it. Eg, if it's a tall stick, I'll presume the person is also tall.

HOW CORD GRIP ADDED:
__ cord is simply wrapped on top of itself without knots, tightened on top of initial and ending strands
__ sometimes I put a small stud on the top and bottom ends to help hold them in place
__ wrapped grip is then given several coats of wood hardener on top of the paracord until it's soaked and coated good
__ yes, you can untie the paracord and use it--it will just be a little stiff at first

BENEFITS OF WOOD HARDENER__on paracord:
__ protect from snags and wear n tear of cord
__ helps keep wrap from slipping out of place
__ helps with grip, not as slippery under sweat or rain and mist
__ won't get dirty as much or absorb your sweat as much
__ is warmer to grip than cold wood

WRIST STRAP

Paracord braid width is approx. 5/8"-6/8". Strap is approx. 14 in. when open, and 6-7 in. when closed, with extra long tassels you can cut yourself after you adjust to fit.

The wrist strap is made of about 15-18 ft. of 550 paracord (or suede leather if you message me, see 'Note' below).

Please MESSAGE me ASAP after purchase) to tell me WHERE you want it (ie, above or below hand grip, distance from ground up, or from top of staff--however you prefer to measure).

__ I'll put it where I think seems best, assuming the end user's height matches the height of a stick where the hand grip falls below 50" mark.

NOTE re: LEATHER STRAP: Leather is for WRIST STRAPS ONLY, but NOT for hand grips. [It's not in the drop down menu so folks don't think they can get a leather handgrip.]

__ hole drilled, sanded and then coated with clear poly
__ lanyard threaded through hole and tied loosely (so you can easily untie and adjust it before you tighten the knots for good).
