Party Recap

On March 23, we hosted a movie premier party for my daughter's 5th grade class. They read the book in class and then joined up to go to opening day and then after to our home for a movie premier party to recap and compare & contrast the book/movie! We had a tent set up in the back for the 30+ kids, lounging area inside for the adults and games/competition in the front yard.

Idea

Party Highlights

  • Best Dressed

Everyone! in their Hunger Games gear...and still others who wore plain Tshirts and made their own with sharpies!

  • Desserts

Make your own-Katniss' wild strawberry shortcakes, didn't get a pic but we had doughnut holes from Mellark bakery and District 12 coal (brownies covered in oreos)

  • Activities / Games

District sponsor gifts scavenger hunt--kids broken up into "districts" to compete. Also the Cornucopia Weapons relay race where they went thru an obstacle course and had to race and get weapons according to their weapons list.

  • Budget

not sure...It wasn't my kiddos typical birthday party, so I did hold back a little and we did have potluck and some stuff donated.

  • Party Favors

Bookmarks, flashlight, water bottles, and candies.

  • Best Moment

As they arrived, seeing their excitement and their awe as they walked up to the "arena" tent! My daughter is close friends with about 10 of the 30 kids so they were use to our parties, but the other 20 kids have never experienced something like this. I think we've created a special memory!

  • What People Ate

Pizza...kids! We kept it easy but we did call it "Pizza surprise from the Hob!"

  • What People Drank

Peeta's sleep syrup (fruit punch and sprite)

  • Most Touching Moment

One of the young boys asked if they could really keep the flashlights. That same boy saw me on Monday afterschool and came up to me to thank me for the party!

  • Funniest Moment

Part of the obstacle course was to crawl on the grass, I was worried that these "cool" 5th graders might not want to get dirty by crawling on their hands and knees, so my genius idea was to put down foamie mats that they could crawl on and not get dirty. Well when the relay race happened, I was shocked and couldn't stop laughing at how competitive these kids were...most were barrel rolling across while yet others found a way to make the mat like a slip and slide! they flew across!!!
